Modeshift STARS Healthcare
What is the Modeshift STARS Healthcare scheme?
Our Modeshift STARS accreditation programme is a simple 5-step process that empowers organisations to enhance everyday journeys.
Modeshift STARS Healthcare has been developed in partnership with NHS England and in consultation with primary and secondary healthcare settings.
Organisations are supported to create, deliver, and track the effectiveness of their Travel Plans whilst working towards national accreditation. Since 2008, over 6,000 sites have achieved Modeshift STARS accreditation, delivering a variety of engaging and effective sustainable and active travel initiatives, and impacting millions of people across the country.
Modeshift STARS provides:
- A tool for developing a Travel Plan
- A national standard for Travel Plans
- Nationally recognised accreditation
- A tool for analysing your CO2 Scope 3 commuting emissions

Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust continue to thrive and develop initiatives to reach their Net Zero target.
“Modeshift has provided us the opportunity to better focus our efforts on travel and transport at our hospital, and increase engagement with our stakeholders – a critical part of the decarbonisation journey. We have really valued the guidance of the accreditation process and as we strive for the Very Good Travel Plan accreditation, we are now looking at which of our initiatives are resulting in the most change and provide the best support for sustainable travel, helping us to streamline our approach and better capture progress.”
Gemma Heath, Sustainability Manager, Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.
